Taller 50 nace de una extensa tradición familiar de artesanos Chilenos, la cual se desarrolla en el pueblito de artesanos de Los Dominicos. Se inicia hace más de 30 años, especializándose en la confección de piezas talladas y esculpidas a mano en diversos tipos de madera, entre las que se destacan el raulí y el coigüe. Miguel Angel Cabrera, hijo de artesano, ha perfeccionado su oficio del tallado en madera durante más de 35 años, logrando una depurada técnica que lo ha llevado a realizar trabajos para prestigiosas instituciones y particulares. Tras manifestar un temprano interés por las artes desde la infancia, ya pasada la adolescencia, en plena década de los ochenta, se integra a la escuela nacional de artesanos, eligiendo la especialidad del tallado en piedra. Después de cinco años y tras haber alcanzado el dominio de la técnica, opta por seguir explorando las bondades de la madera, material que sin duda aprendió a trabajar gracias a las enseñanzas de su padre el tallador Oscar Cabrera Gavilán, maestro tallador y ebanista Chileno, que ha dejado un gran legado artístico en sus hijos, quienes mantienen viva la antigua tradición del trabajo a mano, sobre maderas nobles. Inspirados principalmente en el barroco español, Miguel, Luis, Oscar y Jorge recrean con maestría todo tipo de tallados como ornamentación heráldica clásica, muebles de estilo e imaginería religiosa. Aunque admirador de artistas del Barroco Español como Martínez Montañés, Gregorio Fernández, entre otros, Miguel Angel Cabrera acota que "en muchas figuras de la imaginería colonial, deudora de la barroca, había una tendencia a cubrir la forma tallada en madera con policromados que no dejaban ver la veta; nuestro trabajo, en cambio, intenta rescatar justamente el valor de la madera misma".
