Solomon Weisbard: New York-based lighting designer for live performance, theater, dance, opera, music, and installation. Solomon takes a fiercely collaborative approach to the creative process. Much like the performance itself, the making of profound work happens only when a group of people experience something significant together. Therefore presence, observation, and immediacy deeply influence his work. He believes in the power of design to slice, sculpt, and catapult a performance. Designers are largely responsible for a thrilling and moving relationship between audience and performer. Frequently this means stepping back and allowing the words or movement to own the space, but often they must find an extremity that drives the experience beneath the skin. His work in dance and movement has led him to create original full-length pieces with Alethea Adsitt, Jennifer Archibald, Ximena Garnica / Leimay, Lane Gifford, Ofelia Loret de Mola, Patrick Lovejoy, Stefanie Nelson, The Nerve Tank (as resident designer), Waxfactory, and four major works as associate set designer with Bill T Jones. Solomon was an adjunct faculty member and guest artist in lighting design at University of Rochester in Fall 2014. He received his BFA with honors from Ithaca College and his MFA from the Yale School of Drama. He is New York based and an Oregon native.

The Symposium for Part-time, Adjunct, and Contingent Educators (SPACE) is a conference where part-time, adjunct, and contingent faculty can present their original scholarship in a peer-reviewed, professional setting. SPACE also provides a venue for contingent faculty members to share what they are doing in the classroom and to connect with their contingent colleagues.
