The Optical Women's Association, a nonprofit organization, was founded in September 1997 with the mission of supporting and promoting the professional development of women in the optical industry. The mission of the OWA is to enhance and promote the leadership role of women in the optical industry through networking, education, and peer support.

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral studies in the physical sciences and related disciplines at top universities abroad. Launched in 2004, Faculty for the Future has grown to become a closeknit community of 194 pioneering women from 54 countries. Faculty for the Future applicants are selected for their leadership abilities and scientific talent. Grantees are awarded fellowships ranging from USD 25,000 to 50,000 per year. Ultimately, these women return home to become leaders, to strengthen their university faculties, to contribute to the socioeconomic development of their countries and to serve as powerful role models to attract more young women into the sciences.

The objective for MEAS is to define and disseminate good practice strategies and approaches to establishing efficient, effective and financially sustainable rural extension and advisory service systems in selected countries. Extension systems in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central America need to undergo significant change if they are to effectively serve the food security and economic development needs of resource-poor men and women farmers. New approaches must draw on full breadth of resources in public, private and civil society organizations and utilized available advanced information and communications technologies. MEAS is a Center of Excellence that seeks to promote and support such endeavors. Our goal is to help transform and modernize these extension systems, so they can play a key role in both increasing farm incomes and enhancing the livelihoods of the rural poor, especially farm women.

With myriads development constraints – youth unemployment, a wide spread practice of corruption, inefficient service delivery and social dilemmas with natural resource management, CEfAD is founded to play a role in addressing priority gaps in some of these social services with a focus on women and youth.
