Making Mommas | Making Mommas Out Of You And Me
    http://pageoverview.com/website-report/makingmommas.com
Happy Valentine's Day!! When you become a mom, Valentine's Day takes on a whole other meaning. Suddenly, there is more than just one love in your life. And it is your job to honor that love. Gone are the romantic dinners, flowers and candle light! Very rarely will you get whisked off on a romantic get-away weekend. Instead, you will receive dried macaroni necklaces, painted hearts and shiny plastic rings. And oddly enough, these little trinkets will mean more to you than any diamond. Well, almost. How to honor your little one on Valentine's Day? Well, now, that truly is the question. For years I would start the day off for my boys with a special breakfast. When they came running to the breakfast table, they would find a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a gift at their place setting. The gift was always jammie themed – a new pair of pajamas, slippers, a new blanket or a new stuffed animal. Other than baking heart-shaped cookies, and occasionally a desert for dinner, that is really all I ever did for my boys on Valentine's Day. As more and more boys were added to the family, the tradition slowly died out. And so I found myself wondering, what do I do for Valentine's Day this year? If you are in the same boat, fear not!! The day is not done. Try one of these ideas for a last minute Valentine Day surprise – and the ones that require a little more planning can always be tucked away for next year! 21 Ways To Spend Valentine's Day With Your Children 1. Surprise them with a special breakfast. Make it something gooey and sweet! After all, isn't that what this day is all about? Try some cinnamon rolls, monkey break, caramel rolls, muffins or scones. For an extra special treat, serve them cake for breakfast! 2. Give them a themed gift every year. Like I said, I did a pajama theme. But this can be anything. Maybe it's sports related, a game themed gift, bath related or a movie theme. The trick is to keep the same theme every year, but to find a different gift from year to year. 3. Give them a box of chocolate. A traditional touch, for sure. This makes a nice addition to any tradition. 4. Cook dinner together. Cooking dinner together is always fun for the little kids, but as your children get older, it becomes more of a chore. Make it fun by serving a yummy punch or pop, cranking up some music and joking around while you cook! 5. Have a candle light dinner. Younger kids love this one. They know there is something extra special going on when you dim the lights and light a candle. 6. Have a special dinner together. Maybe it's dinner out. Maybe it's a heart-shaped pizza. Or maybe you serve them their favorite pasta. Whatever it is, make it stand out. Serve some sparkling water or juice in a wine glass for kicks! 7. Make it a date night. Take your kids out for dinner and a movie. Or hit the bowling alley or the skating rink. Do something fun as a family. 8. Watch a movie together. Snuggle up together on the couch, pop some popcorn and put on that movie you've been meaning to sit down and watch. Make it a pajama party or slumber party to set it apart from any other movie night. 9. Play a board game together. Let them stay up late and play a game together. Serve some yummy snacks, a special drink and just have fun! 10. Camp out in their bedroom for the night. If you have older kids, play some video games with them until late in to the night. If your kids are younger, sleep on the floor in their room. Have a slumber party together! 11. Surprise them with a special delivery at school. Have some balloons, a cupcake, a flower or something special delivered to your child at school, in front of his or her classmates. 12. Take them out for lunch on their school lunch break. Have them excused over their lunch break and take them someplace special! 13. Have breakfast with them at school. If they eat breakfast at school in the morning, join them! If you can't make breakfast, you can always join them for lunch. 14. Take them away for the weekend. You may no longer be whisked away for a romantic weekend but you sure can kidnap your kids for a weekend away! Surprise them by picking them up from school and darting off for a fun-filled weekend of things they love. 15. Give them a journal you have kept for the past year. Start a journal in January, end it in December, and give it to them as a Valentine's Day gift. Fill the pages with letter of love, funny things they did, things you are proud of, or times you missed them throughout the year. 16. Create a scrapbook for them. There are so many ways to scrapbook now! Create a traditional scrapbook with paper and scissors, create one on-line with Shutterfly or Mixbook, create a book out of your FaceBook Wall or from your instagram account with Chatbook. 17. Have a school skip day and go somewhere fun instead. It's okay, I promise. If you know your child can easily make up the work, skip a day! Go have fun. Everyone deserves a mental health day. ;-) 18. Give them a homemade gift. If you have special talents, such as knitting, painting, making jewelry, etc., use it! Make something special for your child. 19. Visit someone who may be lonely on Valentine's Day. Not everyone is lucky enough to be surrounded by children on Valentine's Day. Take yours to visit someone who might be alone on Valentine's Day. The elderly would be a good place to start – they love little kids! 20. Bake a Valentine treat together. Make some cookies or a cake together. Surprise a loved one with the goodies! 21. Make a Valentine together. It could be any kind of craft or DIY project. Make it together and surprise someone you love with it! Have any more ideas? Share them!

SMPTE® 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition, Oct. 24-26 in Hollywood: Renowned Media and Entertainment Technology Event Will Follow Daylong SMPTE 2017 Symposium Focusing on AI and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation SMPTE, the organization whose standards work has supported a century of advances in entertainment technology, has opened registration for the SMPTE 2017 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (SMPTE 2017), Oct. 24-26 in Hollywood, California, as well as for the SMPTE 2017 Symposium preceding the conference on Oct. 23. Early bird rates are available now through Aug. 12. SMPTE’s Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition is the world’s premier forum for the exploration of media and entertainment technology. Taking place at the Hollywood & Highland Center, the event will fill two exhibit halls and multiple session rooms. SMPTE 2017 will also feature a beer garden, Broadcast Beat’s SMPTE 2017 Live! Studio, and a series of special events culminating with the Annual SMPTE Awards Gala hosted in the Loews Hollywood Hotel’s Hollywood Ballroom on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 26. “The rapid pace of change in the media and entertainment industry makes the SMPTE Annual Conference & Exhibition a critically important event for anyone wishing to experience and understand the latest advances in motion-imaging and audio,” said SMPTE Education Vice President Richard Welsh. “For four days in October, Hollywood will be the place to learn about the research, standards, technologies, and techniques that are enabling amazing new experiences for media consumers worldwide.” Titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in Digital Media Creation: The Promise, The Reality, and The (Scary?) Future,” the day-long SMPTE 2017 Symposium on Oct. 23 will examine how these technologies have gained significant traction in the creation of digital media. Presenters will offer practical use cases throught the production chain — including story and script development, music composition, contextual analysis of dailies, edit preparation, imaging processing, visual effects (VXF) preparation, and audience engagement, along with discoverability and distribution of content. Experts and visionaries in the field will assist attendees in establishing a firm foundation for understanding a technology which may eventually disrupt the media and entertainment industry. The Symposium is included with select conference packages or as an add-on or stand-alone registration. The SMPTE 2017 program committee is chaired by SMPTE Fellows Paul Chapman, senior vice president of technology at Fotokem; Thomas Edwards, vice president of technology and engineering at FOX; and Sara Kudrle, product marketing manager at Imagine Communications. Since its founding in 1916, SMPTE has received an Oscar® and multiple Emmy® Awards for its work in advancing moving-imagery engineering across the industry. SMPTE has developed thousands of standards, recommended practices, and engineering guidelines, more than 800 of which are currently in force today. SMPTE Time Code™ and the ubiquitous SMPTE Color Bars™ are just two examples of SMPTE’s notable work. As it enters its second century, SMPTE is shaping the next generation of standards and providing education for the industry to ensure interoperability as the industry evolves further into IT- and IP-based workflows. SMPTE’s global membership today includes more than 7,000 members: motion-imaging executives, creatives, technologists, researchers, and students who volunteer their time and expertise to SMPTE’s standards development and educational initiatives. I have the mind of an engineer, but feel that those skills are simply tools that, by themselves lack reason. Design, on the other hand, enables us to extract the passion and value in an idea, driving a goal past its practical standards and reaching for a more meaningful and powerful solution. Its not about the technology or the device, it is how we use it.   I have the mind of an engineer, but those skills alone lack reason. Design and technology enables us to extract the value in life, driving a goal past mundane standards, and instead reach for an extraordinary solution. It’s not about what we can do with technology, it is how we use it.  My work seeks to affect and enhance behavior, movement, memory, and social communication in the physical space, seamlessly integrating what are normally screen-based interactions with a greater appreciation of being present.

    JAMES KIRBY
    http://pageoverview.com/website-report/jameskirbymusic.com
This is a story... Well, more of an interview and insight to an artist.  One who has a story covering more miles than your average musician but one who's journey started as all of ours do. By finding that almost sacred and symbiotic relationship with our instruments.    From one of his earliest memories James Kirby remembers strumming his guitar as his father played away at the keys of a piano and his brother held the rhythm on the drums. But the six string that he now comes to play so magnificently was not his first instrument. From the age of four, James was encouraged to play more classical themed instrumentation such as the Piano, Cello and Viola. Though in hindsight he expresses a thought of not being "as good" at these in comparison to the drums and (of course) the guitar, which were both introduced to him at the age of eight.   The man is a multi-instrumentalist and the refined method in which he now plays (knowingly or not) salutes his introduction to his earlier and more formal instrumentation.   And music, seemingly for him, was not just a stay at home pass time.  Even in earlier days James has been a part of choirs, orchestras and Jazz/Rock and Indie bands. All these styles, settings and genres aided his understanding and development in music... But they were aided too by his natural, almost perfect pitch ear for music and dynamics.    As life went on James came in to the world we all know. One of four letters that binds our lives to paper and restricts our dreams... Work. His music continued as an overlay to the 9-5 lifestyle with regular gigs 5 times a week between Kent and London. Exhausted and shattered from the fine lines between what he did (work) and what he was (a musician) the then suppressed flame of his passion burst beyond its confinement. It was time for for a change and a time to be all that he was. He pushed his music, utilising the 9-5 to get him where he needed.  His efforts were rewarded with a contract to play full time for 18 months in bars, clubs and restaurants in Spain and the middle east. With every note played it seemed he took another step forward and with his new found knowledge and experience a life on the road became a reality rather than a dream. The doors to the UK/Europe tour were opening.    Though playing for a living is James' dream he is a modest and realistic character. He of all people will express that it's not all bright lights and 5 stars... And most of all, it isn't easy.    "It's been an incredible experience! but to say I'm 'Living the dream' is a stretch from the imagination!   The only reason I managed to line up a UK tour off my own back was because I met such amazing people during my time away."    James has no management, no tour group, no investors and no label. He is a man with determination and talent and more so he is one who gives thanks to those who got him where he is  .   So I asked him how he sees today in contrast to how he was when he started out  "I never thought I would ever be doing my music full time, even looking back 2 years ago when I was sat working in an office."  And though there is a surprised and positive shock in the distance travelled to achieve his goals James then brought forward a side so many dismiss from the world of music. At what cost do achieving our dreams come at?  "I gave up everything, a secure job, a nice apartment, relationship and time with family, friends to follow a dream (excuse the cliche) I've had since as long as I can remember."    ladies and gentlemen,  James Kirkby holds a story so many don't see.  Here we have a man who I actually refuse to call a "Guitarist" even with all this hard work in practice and talent... James Kirby IS a Musician! He is a Composer and an Artist!  And he is his own. He has made what once may have seemed impossible an actual life.  Hard work, determination and as you have read, sacrifice.  Admittedly it is not a life of glamour, more so one of a diary, equipment and petrol receipts.   It is a world James himself built and though he gives great thanks and appreciation to those along the way, if you look deep into the core of what he has done, he has done it alone.    This man alone (to me) separates those who want to be musicians from those who actually are! And he is a beacon to those who hold the passion of music as close as each and every drawing breath, that there is a life that can be achieved. And you don't need to bombard labels to do it nor sell your soul. So drop the glam, roll up your sleeves,  definitely drop the ego and get some good old hard graft in.  Throughout history the artists (within and outside the world of music) worth remembering are those who ignored the quick fixes... And James Kirby dare I say... Has right to stand amongst them. If not only for his talent but how he has brought his talent to others.   Again on a personal note his talent and journey always give me pride simply through the fact we share our names.    And there is more to come from James in the near future, from collaborations with other artists to his  own EP and album... And not forgetting another self made European Tour.  So I implore you to look him up, to listen and see him do what he does.  Because by the time he's restrung his guitars, loaded up his equipment he'll be off again effortlessly entertaining the world he's made himself.

2011-2013 “i am a rock. i am an island" is a project that was born from solitary expeditions across Iceland while searching for old Quonset huts. During World War II, the United States occupied Iceland when they originally claimed neutrality during the war. The U.S. had a continuing military presence in the country until 2006. While traversing the country alone, the vast emptiness of the land mimicked my own personal journey, and this body of work focuses on the sublime solitude of the Icelandic terrain. The landscapes are deconstructed and re-examined, projecting hints of human element in environments void of people. These images act as a catalyst for a fantastical exploration of the memory and psychology one attaches to place.

    Tandem - Further Together
    http://pageoverview.com/website-report/wearetandem.org
The definition of Tandem is an arrangement in which two or more individuals are aligned and moving towards a common goal. This name change allows us - in a single word – to capture the essence of WHO we are and WHAT we do.  We work in tandem with our mamas, with our donors, and with our community.   After all, our WHY is human connection.  We passionately believe in this idea that when you have a group of people in your corner, who are deeply invested in you, you can overcome any crisis that comes your way.  An unplanned pregnancy, poverty, homelessness, job loss, domestic violence, mental health concerns... The truth is - we all face crisis at some point - it's inevitable.  We are there for those who face it alone. Our greatest desire is to walk in tandem with our mamas through whatever crisis they find themselves in because we believe so strongly in that truth. Much like a tandem sky dive, we are committed to the whole jump from exit, through free-fall, piloting the canopy, and finally…the safe landing. We are all about the relationship.  We often remind ourselves that while we do our best, we cannot solve all of the world’s problems for our mamas.  But what we can do is love them and walk along side them in their journey so that even when the next step is really hard to take, they never have to take it alone.  Together, in tandem, we overcome the barriers together.   We are cultivating a community of hope in which those in crisis come out on the other side to all of the promise that Life still has to offer.  We combine practical help with deep authentic relationships and those two things woven together are a powerful force.   There is something sacred that happens in that moment when the barriers come down, and we are no longer clients or staff or donors…we are just a community of people, drawn to one another for the purpose of sharing our stories in an authentic, transparent way that heals the soul.  We call it life-on-life ministry.  It’s powerful. It’s why we are different. It’s why what we do, works.

An avid runner, Brent compares his business building to the preparation and strategy that a distance runner would use during a race: "You have to learn how to balance yourself during a race," said Burnett. "You have to know when to push and when to dial it back. Last year , we saw the opportunity to reach and decided to make that push." Hitting Pearl is definitely a commendable achievement for Brent, but not one that he could have accomplished alone. Joining him in the journey for greatness are two other Team Members who made pushes of their own to reach new titles before the end of the year. NEW TEAM DIRECTORS William Ackley and Richard Carl, friends of Brent and members of his organization, were taught what would be required in order for their businesses to grow. They met with Brent, set goals, and organized a plan to each achieve the Team Director title in conjunction with Brent's advancement. It was teamwork at its finest. As they worked to see their plans come to fruition, William and Richard committed to create positive habits that could be duplicated. "They would always go out and do the simple things that I told them to do," said Burnett. "Then we would talk again and they would bring up questions, and we would build from there." Today, Brent Burnett leads his team as a Pearl Executive, and with new milestones in sight. He has two very dedicated and passionate Team Directors by his side, looking to achieve further success in their own businesses. The future is looking bright, but all three are aware that building on success takes dedication and patience. "Obviously, these sort of accolades don't happen overnight," said Burnett. "It's something that you have to be willing to build and work toward." POSITIVITY FOR A GROWING TEAM Brent has a goal to maintain a positive attitude as he builds. He believes this is how a successful team will be built. He hopes to create a climate in which people will want to work hard. "We want to help people find the right culture where they can be successful," said Brent. "We've been really impressed by our leaders around the world and we hope to create an environment that will encourage people to discover their true potential." As Brent continues to build a positive team in 2018, we congratulate him, along with William Ackley and Richard Carl, for their accomplishments so far. As they continue to generate momentum, we look forward to seeing how they will grow this year and beyond!

NASPR (North American Shar-Pei Rescue) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit rescue dedicated to those "last chance" purebred Shar-Pei in need. Our members are all volunteers that work diligently to rehabilitate and care for each rescue with love and commitment. Our Shar-Pei are respected as the individual personalities that they are and we invest the time to work with our adoptive families to introduce them to the Shar-Pei that will be the best addition to their family. NASPR cannot save all those in need, but for those that we can, we make a lifetime commitment to not only the dog but the adoptive families so that our Shar Pei will never find themselves alone, scared and uncared for again.
