I fell in love with photography at age 15 when I got my first SLR camera for Christmas back in 1983. I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer but photography school was too expensive so I never pursued it professionally. In my 20's, I didn't have time to do much photography due to... well, life. At around age 32 I decided I wanted to be happy, finally, and I wanted to take control of my life instead of being controlled by my job. So I started getting back into my photography and practicing and shooting and reading everything I could get my hands on and teaching myself how to be a better photographer. So at age 34 I started my photography business. This was in 2002 about 6 months after 9/11. Probably not the best time to start a business, but for me it was now or never. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life! I put everything I had into it with the attitude that "I will make this happen!" Failure was not an option. To my surprise... three years later, I was shooting 50 weddings a year. The best part... I am happy! I love what I do, I love my life... What could be better than that? About My Photography I don't like to label my style of photography. I just go with what I am feeling from the bride and groom and what I am feeling from the wedding location. The light, the colors, the textures all play a part in how I shoot. I bring a relaxed, fun and confident attitude to my shoots. I get told by my clients that I am a joy to work with and I make them feel very comfortable in front of the camera. I get people at my weddings telling me, "Dude, your an awesome photographer!" I'm like, "You haven't even seen the pictures yet." "Don't need to. I can just tell by watching you that you're an awesome photographer. You never miss anything. You're just right on it." I love to read books and learn new techniques and skills along with more about myself. It's a way for us to grow not only as individuals but as business owners and entrepreneurs. There a ton of "self-help" books out there. Rarely, do they ever make sense nor are what they teach very realistic or practical to use. Recently I read a book that was a suggestion from an email newsletter I subscribe to from Pat Flynn. I have found Pat Flynn, who recommended this book, to be authentic, real and trustworthy. I decided to take a look at it and read it from start to finish within a week. The book is insightful, practical, and was an eye opener for me personally and professionally. The author is Gary Keller with Jay Papasan both who are popular online business people, I am guessing. The book takes you through the myths of multitasking and provides a great method for finding your ultimate purpose. It made me really reflect on what my ultimate purpose is in this life. Then it helps you narrow down, and narrow down, and narrow down to help you get to the actual task or activity that can help you towards your bigger purpose. The information applies to all facets of your life whether it is health, business, spiritual, personal or anything else. The main question asked throughout the book was, "What is the ONE Thing I can do today that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" The word phrase that really stuck out to me was "I CAN DO". Not what should I do, not what could I do. I find myself asking the question everyday but not before I defined my ultimate purpose. Want to know what I came up with? My Lifelong Purpose Statement "My purpose in the next five years is to be free of financial burdens that limit my ability to help myself, my family, other people, and my community. When I am free of those financial burdens, my purpose is to become wealthy enough to achieve my personal goals for my family, other people, and my community for the rest of my life and beyond. Leave a legacy for my family, other people, and my community." I know that is really broad and sort of vague but when I went through the process outlined in the book I could really narrow it down to the one task I can do at this moment that will move me toward that goal. Pretty cool, I think. The book is affordable, not costing more than any other book you would normally buy and you can purchase other companion pieces to go with it. I just enjoyed the book and got a lot out it, so I didn't find it necessary to purchase the other pieces. But you might decide you need more and that's okay. Greetingz fans and happy New Year 2016! During the 3 weeks of Christmas vacation I've developed a new game prototype. My intention was to create a totally minimalistic gaming experience that could make your toilet sitting more fun and even train the cognitive brain abilities a bit. You can play the game concept here: Click image to play Inspiration I thought about a proper idea for a long time and finaly got it when watching a baby-lobotomy video with my little daughter. The video was about teaching the children - which objects fly and which don't fly. I remember a game about this topic when I was a child. Someone picked an object, shouted it, and if it was a flying object, all of the other children had to put the index fingers in the air. If it was a non-flying object the children had to sit without moving. Who was too slow or didn't respond properly he had to leave the game and next round started immediately until just one child had left - the winner of course :) This made me to create a simple game. Rules are described below. Game mechanics So let's look at the game mechanics: There's a time limit of 10 seconds for a round Two shapes appear on the screen at once Only one shape represents an object that flies If player taps the correct e.g. flying object, he gets a point and a bonus time If player taps the wrong e.g. non flying object, he gets no point and gets and looses a small portion of precious time limit The faster the player decides, the more bonus time he can get and the better score he can achieve The more points, the more experience the player gets. Once he gets enough exp, he will proceed to the next (more difficult) level, where more shapes will appear (animals, insects, inductrial objects etc.) In advanced levels, the shapes will be rotated, so the player will have to cope with his mental rotation ability of his brain So let's sum up the features. Growing up I always helped out with food preparation and clearing away, but, I never really got involved in the nitty-gritty of the cooking. It may have been due to my mother’s exacting standards or perhaps just the fact that she was such a great cook, but either way my siblings and I were happy to just sit back and enjoy the end results (maybe we were just couch potatoes!). When my husband and I recently decided to finally move out of our "starter home" and into one that was a bit larger to fit our growing family, I was happy to have more space. However, our starter home had a hardwired security system that I didn't fully appreciate until we moved. Do to the stress of moving and everything on our "to do" list, we didn't look into a new security system right away. However, after a couple of days of feeling insecure in my own home, we began looking into our options right away. My husband said that I seemed anxious the first few days we lived in our new home, and I have to admit that I did until we got our new security system! He is often referred to as a horse whisperer, others call him ‘the magic man’, but Gary Witheford, the man who breaks horses in less than half an hour, prefers to call himself a ‘horseman’. As the first man to break in zebras, Gary and his son, Craig, work with horses who present all sorts of problems. These range from refusing to load onto horseboxes, ridden issues such as bolting, bucking, rearing or napping, fear of traffic, farrier or vet phobias and many other challenges faced by horse owners from all disciplines, be it happy hackers or competition horses. In addition to this they specialise in working with racehorses who have a range of issues, most notably those with issues when being loaded into starting stalls. He and his team also break in hundreds of horses each year – although he prefers the term ‘start’ as ‘breaking-in’ is a very negative term. The most notable of his racing successes to date was Sea The Stars for Irish trainer John Oxx and the mighty Kingman for John Gosden. Gary’s expertise in dealing with horses spans over 30 years and he has dealt with many eventers and competition horses. As Gary explains, horses don’t really want to get into a fight and by working them using pressure and release, they quickly learn to look at you as a leader. “The less pressure there is the more the horse will follow you. It’s the herd instinct. Horses are flight animals, whether they are thoroughbreds, ponies or shire horses so you’ve got to go through their thoughts and go back to basics.’
