Site description: 1673 Nedda El-Asmar studied jewellery design and silversmithing at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp, and she completed her education at the Royal College of Art in London. It is impossible to sum up her various activities over the last twenty years in one word. Openness, flexibility and diversity are key concepts in her thinking and design approach. She is quick to see possibilities, even if a commission comes from an unexpected source. As a result she has evolved into an acclaimed designer with a broad field of activities. Erik Indekeu is trained as Product Designer at the Henry van de Velde-Instituut in Antwerp. Shortly after his study he joined the Tupperware design team in Aalst, Belgium. In 1994 he was the first Product Designer to work for deSter, leading supplier and manufacturer of inflight-catering equipment. Erik has always been eager to explore the possibilities of new materials and techniques while keeping his eye for detail on esthetical and functional features. Just that little bit of extra effort can make the difference. Since 2008 Erik has been Nedda’s business and design partner. They had worked together previously and this partnership and her nomination as Designer of the Year in 2007 mean that the diversification of their projects has gained momentum. They work for renowned names as Hermès, Puiforcat, Eternum, Gense, Villeroy & Boch, Robbe & Berking, Obumex, Demeyere, Carl Mertens, Serax, Maison Vervloet, Magnitude… Nedda & Erik are teaching at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Their adagio ‘A world of seemingly simple shapes’ perfectly describes their designs.
