Gail Taylor’s research group, based at the University of Southampton in south UK, specialises in research relating to plants and environmental change. Key plants worked on are SRC (short-rotation coppice) poplar (Populus) and willow (Salix), as well as Miscanthus, lettuce and watercress. Key research areas include the development of land use models for growing sustainable bioenergy crops, the study of GHG (greenhouse gas) balance in field sites, carbon footprint of crops grown for biofuels, QTL (quantitative trait loci) mapping in poplar for improved yield traits for use in bioenergy, carbon balance of UK bioenergy systems and re-sequencing the black poplar genome using ILLUMINA technology.
