Michael Early is a composer and performer who feels most at home making music at the elusive borders of genres and traditions. He is particularly interested in the intersections between Western concert music and non-notated musical traditions, and between acoustic and electronic instruments.

Philipp Gropper (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, composition) was born in Berlin in 1978. He began to play the saxophone at the age of seven. Gropper studied the jazz saxophone at the UDK Berlin and played with the concert section of Bujazzo for two years under Peter Herbolzheimer. He has since been busy as a freelance sax player and composer, dedicating most of his time to developing his musical ideas. In 2003, he started the trio HYPERACTIVE KID with Ronny Graupe and Christian Lillinger, and in 2012 founded the quartet PHILM with Elias Stemeseder, Robert Landfermann and Oliver Steidle. In 2013 - exploring yet again a completely different field of music - he initiated TAU, an electric acoustic group with Philipp Zoubek, Petter Eldh and Moritz Baumgärtner. Concerts with these bands and others have brought Gropper to over 40 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. He has had the honour of sharing a stage with wonderful musicians such as Rudi Mahal, Ralph Towner, Jim Black, Bobby McFerrin, Kresten Osgood, Tobias Delius, Clayton Thomas, Nasheet Waits, Pablo Held, Olaf Rupp, Ceylan Ertem, Matthias Schriefl, John Schröder, Maria Joao, Tom Arthurs, Paulo Cardoso, Eric Schaefer, Kalle Kalima, James Knapp, Kaja Drachsler, Günter Baby Sommer, Håvard Wiik, Axel Dörner, Mat Maneri, Matthew Herbert, DJ IllVibe, Andreas Lang, Ibadet Ramadani and many others. As a sideman he plays with Wanja Slavin's Lotus Eaters, Pablo Held’s Glow, This Is Not My Dog, Home Stretch, European Movement Jazz Orchester and some more.Gropper has recorded more than 40 albums and has been awarded several prizes. He has been a member of the Jazzkollektiv Berlin since 2009. 2013/2014 he enjoyed an artist's residency in Basel for several months.

Bill Thompson is a sound artist and composer whose work has been performed extensively throughout the UK and abroad.A native of Texas, he relocated to the UK in 2004 to pursue a PhD in Composition. Since then he has received numerous awards and commissions including the PRS for New Music ATOM award, the GAVAA visual arts award, a PRS for New Music Three Festival commission, the 2010 Aberdeen Visual Arts Award, and was nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Award in 2012.As an artist, he has a particular interest in perception and embodied presence. His installations and performances frequently utilize found objects, field recordings, repurposed live electronics, and digital media to create environments that encourage active attention to each moment. He applies this same strategy within his compositional work which often include long sustained tones, densely layered textures, and indeterminate or improvised structures. He has written for a range of instruments including voice, guitar, contrabass, bagpipe, percussion, organ, string quartet, mixed ensembles and live electronics. As a solo performer he works primarily with live electronics although originally trained as a guitarist.In addition to working as a solo artist, Thompson has collaborated with choreographer Ian Spink for several years in their company Airfield. Their work together blurs the distinctions between dance, theatre, music and installation. Additionally, he has worked with several other well-known artists including Keith Rowe, Faust, EXAUDI and others.He is also an avid supporter of new music and is the director of the Burning Harpsichord Series, a concert programme devoted to high calibre experimental music. He also co-directs the multidisciplinary artist workshop fast+Dirty with Ian Spink, lectures at the University of Surrey and teaches collaborative arts practice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.Artist Statement
