I am originally from Pennsylvania, USA, but immigrated to Canada in 2006.  I lived in Ottawa, Ontario for six years.  I currently reside in Gwangju, South Korea, with my wife Melanie.  We are both middle school English teachers in South Korea. For those interested, the majority of photos here were taken with my Sony Alpha A100 with a 75-300mm f5.6.  I recently upgraded to a Canon 7D, 100-400mm f4.5/5.6, which will be my primary set up from now on.

Kevin Lee resides in Fullerton, California and frequently dives SoCal waters. His adventures, in over 40 countries, include multiple treks to Mt. Everest Base Camp and atop Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest summit. Among his memorable experiences, he fondly recalls a warm hug from Mother Teresa and meeting the Dalai Lama. After learning to scuba dive, Kevin took up underwater photography to share the wonders of the ocean with others. He has dived all Seven Continents, including Antarctica where water temperatures were 29F (-2C). Kevin's images are on permanent display at Chapman University, Orange California, and have been exhibited at various venues such as the Branford House, University of Connecticut, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and other venues. I am passionate about photography, wildlife and love the great outdoors! I fell in love with photography at age 15 when I got my first SLR camera for Christmas back in 1983. I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer but photography school was too expensive so I never pursued it professionally. In my 20's, I didn't have time to do much photography due to... well, life. At around age 32 I decided I wanted to be happy, finally, and I wanted to take control of my life instead of being controlled by my job. So I started getting back into my photography and practicing and shooting and reading everything I could get my hands on and teaching myself how to be a better photographer. So at age 34 I started my photography business. This was in 2002 about 6 months after 9/11. Probably not the best time to start a business, but for me it was now or never. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life! I put everything I had into it with the attitude that "I will make this happen!" Failure was not an option. To my surprise... three years later, I was shooting 50 weddings a year. The best part... I am happy! I love what I do, I love my life... What could be better than that? About My Photography I don't like to label my style of photography. I just go with what I am feeling from the bride and groom and what I am feeling from the wedding location. The light, the colors, the textures all play a part in how I shoot. I bring a relaxed, fun and confident attitude to my shoots. I get told by my clients that I am a joy to work with and I make them feel very comfortable in front of the camera. I get people at my weddings telling me, "Dude, your an awesome photographer!" I'm like, "You haven't even seen the pictures yet." "Don't need to. I can just tell by watching you that you're an awesome photographer. You never miss anything. You're just right on it." I earned my chops in photography as a photojournalist, and in post processing as a photo-editor, in 2011 when I worked for a local daily newspaper for 1 year. Since then I have continued local freelance work, but have primarily focused on my true passion – travel photography. Forever hungry for novel experiences, and permanently thirsty for caffeine, I inevitably fall in love with every place I visit. Welcome to my gallery of photos of the railway scene in East Anglia and other parts of the UK and Europe. Most were taken in the decade between 1972 and 1982. Thirty years on a lot of these scenes have disappeared for good. Some lines have closed, some have been electrified or the signalling upgraded with the consequent loss of signal boxes, semaphore signals and manual crossing gates. The BR blue livery has also disappeared under privatisation. From a personal point of view the railways are far less interesting today. This is a replacement for my old Fotopic site which contained around 1700 images. The new site will be continually updated, time permitting, so please check back now and again. It's good to be back. I know it seems scary but just go for it, but not everybody feels confident in public with a camera and taking pictures of people, you need basic knowledge, it’s like laying a foundation before we build a house, it's what makes it strong. Street Photography is not everyone's cup of tea, best to do it for yourself, fill your curiosity. You don’t have to be a serious Street Photographer, as long this genre makes you get up and get out, that’s great. I believe we only gain something from focussing on what we do and keep on trying. I never stop learning when doing Street, everything about it fascinates me, from the people, shadows, shapes, to en empty road. Since I started Street photography, I never get bored. I do Street everywhere, weekends, during holidays, days out with friends, in good weather or bad weather, in broad daylight or at night. The Street is available to everyone who’s willing to do it, 24/7. I started my workshops early in 2017, it’s my great pleasure to introduce Street Photography to others and keep motivating them afterwards. I am always pleased to discover that many of my workshop attendees actually have the skills and understanding but need advice and demonstrations to begin with. I regularly see my workshop attendees doing well after workshops, they start “seeing things” which is the hardest part in Street photography. They gain the confidence to go out and the most important thing is they enjoy it, they feel that Street Photography gives them something to look forward, to go outside and practice. I think that’s wonderful. During the workshops I demonstrate my skills by showing some of my images that I have taken over many years, I point out good subjects that I spot on the Street and give them the explanation and of course I make sure my attendees doing a lot of practising to gain their confidence. My advice to beginners is: Go out, make lots of mistakes and importantly, enjoy it!

Hello and welcome! May 1, 2015 will be my 17th anniversary as an independent, professional photographer. That's 17 years in the hospitality industry covering events; 17 years doing corporate and commercial work; 17 years shooting portraits and weddings. And yes, 17 years of providing on-site digital photo printing for events and parties. I was one of the first photographers in San Diego to offer digital photography as well as one of the first to provide digital printing services. And I was THE FIRST to offer green screen imaging services in San Diego. I'm absolutely passionate about what I do. My goal is not only to exceed the expectations of my clients, but to help RAISE their expectations in what they should get from photographers. While San Diego is my home, I travel worldwide for my clients. If you have an event, person or project that you want captured forever, I would happily make that happen. Emerson's passion for photography began early in life. His studies in biology at Fordham University and photography at Germain School of Photography helped lay the ground work for an ever evolving and unique style of photography. In 2007 The Art Around You was founded, the concept being simple; bringing to light the people, places and things we look at every day but never really see. Emerson shows how extraordinary the ordinary can be and opens to us a world whose existence we have neither the time or vision to acknowledge. He allows us to see through new eyes and look at things a different way. He is absorbed into the environment; wandering, wondering, watching and capturing the space as never before seen. There is art around us every day and everywhere. And though it sometimes takes a finely tuned eye to capture it, it takes only an open mind and willing heart to experience it. I have been fascinated by unconventional people for as long as I can remember. I was raised in a middle class suburban neighborhood where my family stood out as eccentrics. We were the only secular family on the block, and my parents encouraged us to run wild, play hard, and reject authority. My father told captivating stories about his unusual upbringing, many of which revolved around his mother, a paranoid schizophrenic, and his father, a merchant marine with severe PTSD. As I got older, I became curious about other people that lived unorthodox lifestyles. Having seen the work of Mary Ellen Mark and Diane Arbus, I knew that the camera could grant permission into the lives of complete strangers. In 2003, I moved to San Francisco, CA to study photography at The San Francisco Art Institute. After completing my BFA, I moved back to my home town San Diego, with my now husband Tahan, in tow. We currently reside in La Mesa, CA where I work full time as a photographer and am finishing my MFA through the Low Residency program at The San Francisco Art Institute. We are expecting our first child together this Christmas, 2015.
