Muscle will not loosen after sudden stiffening when the body witness's muscle spasm. When it occurs in legs, it's also known as 'Charley Horse'. It can also occur during pregnancy. Yet, there are few instances when disorders or electrolyte imbalances in neuromuscular functions cause spasms. Occasionally, nerve damage can result in a long-term shortening of the muscle, into contracture.
