Street Photography is about how you capture what’s around you, how confident you are as a person, how you handle peoples reactions when or after you take their photo. I know it seems scary but just go for it, but not everybody feels confident in public with a camera and taking pictures of people, you need basic knowledge, it’s like laying a foundation before we build a house, it's what makes it strong. Street Photography is not everyone's cup of tea, best to do it for yourself, fill your curiosity. You don’t have to be a serious Street Photographer, as long this genre makes you get up and get out, that’s great. I believe we only gain something from focussing on what we do and keep on trying. I never stop learning when doing Street, everything about it fascinates me, from the people, shadows, shapes, to en empty road. Since I started Street photography, I never get bored. I do Street everywhere, weekends, during holidays, days out with friends, in good weather or bad weather, in broad daylight or at night. The Street is available to everyone who’s willing to do it, 24/7. I started my workshops early in 2017, it’s my great pleasure to introduce Street Photography to others and keep motivating them afterwards. I am always pleased to discover that many of my workshop attendees actually have the skills and understanding but need advice and demonstrations to begin with. I regularly see my workshop attendees doing well after workshops, they start “seeing things” which is the hardest part in Street photography. They gain the confidence to go out and the most important thing is they enjoy it, they feel that Street Photography gives them something to look forward, to go outside and practice. I think that’s wonderful. During the workshops I demonstrate my skills by showing some of my images that I have taken over many years, I point out good subjects that I spot on the Street and give them the explanation and of course I make sure my attendees doing a lot of practising to gain their confidence. My advice to beginners is: Go out, make lots of mistakes and importantly, enjoy it!

I really enjoyed the first two books of The Queen of the Tearling Trilogy and the way they married the feel of an epic fantasy novel with dystopian elements. I love Kelsea Raleigh--the way she's portrayed and her believable growth from altruistic young woman to someone who's willing to put aside their morals to do what needs to be done. There's a progressively dark feeling to these novels. I still love the setting. We remain in the world Johansen built, but its beginnings are fully fleshed out in The Fate of the Tearling. We get to see how their society used to be run and where everything went wrong. Seeing more of Mortmesne was particularly interesting. I have always enjoyed Johansen's ability to give you something you have a preconceived notion of and then tear it out from under you. She frequently makes you think of things in a new way, and the Mortmesne plot lines are a good example of that. I wasn't a fan of The Fate of the Tearling's storyline, however.. I liked where the story was heading when the second book ended but found myself frequently upset about how she navigated the plot in this book. I thought the Red Queen's redemption arc was completely off the wall. It felt so out of character for the villain we had come to know. I felt that they broke her, in a sense. She came off weak. I enjoyed learning more about Row. I liked that he was given a face and backstory, but the confrontation with him felt highly unsatisfying. I felt the narrative had difficulty carrying the multiple points of view from so many different characters. I found myself missing the rapport and witty banter between Kelsea and her guards. It took away a big part of what I enjoyed in previous books. I also felt there was too much of the dystopian element in this book. I liked getting answers and seeing a more complete history of the world, but I had such a hard time keeping track of everything that it was hard to enjoy the story. There were just too many varying points of view, and it made the narrative feel inconsistent. Another thing I disliked were the new developments in Kelsea and Pen's relationship. Although I don't require romance to enjoy a story, it's a big draw for me. I had liked where their relationship was heading, and the events of this book were frustrating with regards to them. The Fate of the Tearling left me wishing she had written a prequel instead, so I could have fully immersed myself in the characters and storylines I had come to love throughout the series. I detested the ending. It felt as though she took everything she had spent three entire books building and blew it all apart. I like that she had the courage to go in that direction but the narrative turn seemed weak. It felt like a cop out and I found myself a little confused, wondering what precisely had happened. I wish the series had ended with a little more hope. Perhaps that isn't realistic, but I don't really read fiction for realism. All in all, I did enjoy the book and it was largely well written. I just wish that the narrative had been more consistent, that more page time could have been dedicated to the storylines and characters of the present, and that the ending had been more satisfying.

Hi Everyone. Barry here. Since the days of going on those long tours are coming to a close, I thought this might be a good time to remind you all about ManilowTV. I think many of you know that ever since I started performing I have hit the “record” button; be it audio or video. Recordings of every show I’ve ever done are in a big vault. (Right next to my baby shoes and the Copacabana jacket!). All of these recordings were meant only for reference and archival purposes. I would look at the shows each night after a concert, make notes, and give them to the staff so that we could tighten the show or change things. But watching them brings back so many great memories! I know you will enjoy seeing them. That’s what ManilowTV is all about. Each month for the past seven years, Marc and I have looked through hundreds of video tapes and DVD’s and picked a performance that we think you would enjoy and have shown it on ManilowTV. So far, there are 90 different shows. Even though the shows were recorded on one camera and the video and audio is not professional network quality, I think they are very exciting. Hi. Thanks for visiting my Web site. I became interested in Sports Photography while cheering for my daughter at her Volleyball games. As you may be able to see from my picture, I take cheering for my daughter very seriously. It was killing me to know that I was missing out on so many memories because no one was taking pictures. I had a good friend (who is an awesome photographer) who would come to a few games a year and shoot pictures for me. Once my daughter started playing in College I wanted to preserve every minute she spent on the court. I started taking pictures myself and sharing them with her teammates. I quickly realized how much I loved catching these once in a lifetime moments and sharing them. Now I take the photography as serious as the cheering! I regularly cover sports professionally for Newsday, The Suffolk Times, The Riverhead News Review and The Shelter Island Reporter. Its awesome to be able to share my work with a much larger audience. Happy Valentine's Day!! When you become a mom, Valentine's Day takes on a whole other meaning. Suddenly, there is more than just one love in your life. And it is your job to honor that love. Gone are the romantic dinners, flowers and candle light! Very rarely will you get whisked off on a romantic get-away weekend. Instead, you will receive dried macaroni necklaces, painted hearts and shiny plastic rings. And oddly enough, these little trinkets will mean more to you than any diamond. Well, almost. How to honor your little one on Valentine's Day? Well, now, that truly is the question. For years I would start the day off for my boys with a special breakfast. When they came running to the breakfast table, they would find a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a gift at their place setting. The gift was always jammie themed – a new pair of pajamas, slippers, a new blanket or a new stuffed animal. Other than baking heart-shaped cookies, and occasionally a desert for dinner, that is really all I ever did for my boys on Valentine's Day. As more and more boys were added to the family, the tradition slowly died out. And so I found myself wondering, what do I do for Valentine's Day this year? If you are in the same boat, fear not!! The day is not done. Try one of these ideas for a last minute Valentine Day surprise – and the ones that require a little more planning can always be tucked away for next year! 21 Ways To Spend Valentine's Day With Your Children 1. Surprise them with a special breakfast. Make it something gooey and sweet! After all, isn't that what this day is all about? Try some cinnamon rolls, monkey break, caramel rolls, muffins or scones. For an extra special treat, serve them cake for breakfast! 2. Give them a themed gift every year. Like I said, I did a pajama theme. But this can be anything. Maybe it's sports related, a game themed gift, bath related or a movie theme. The trick is to keep the same theme every year, but to find a different gift from year to year. 3. Give them a box of chocolate. A traditional touch, for sure. This makes a nice addition to any tradition. 4. Cook dinner together. Cooking dinner together is always fun for the little kids, but as your children get older, it becomes more of a chore. Make it fun by serving a yummy punch or pop, cranking up some music and joking around while you cook! 5. Have a candle light dinner. Younger kids love this one. They know there is something extra special going on when you dim the lights and light a candle. 6. Have a special dinner together. Maybe it's dinner out. Maybe it's a heart-shaped pizza. Or maybe you serve them their favorite pasta. Whatever it is, make it stand out. Serve some sparkling water or juice in a wine glass for kicks! 7. Make it a date night. Take your kids out for dinner and a movie. Or hit the bowling alley or the skating rink. Do something fun as a family. 8. Watch a movie together. Snuggle up together on the couch, pop some popcorn and put on that movie you've been meaning to sit down and watch. Make it a pajama party or slumber party to set it apart from any other movie night. 9. Play a board game together. Let them stay up late and play a game together. Serve some yummy snacks, a special drink and just have fun! 10. Camp out in their bedroom for the night. If you have older kids, play some video games with them until late in to the night. If your kids are younger, sleep on the floor in their room. Have a slumber party together! 11. Surprise them with a special delivery at school. Have some balloons, a cupcake, a flower or something special delivered to your child at school, in front of his or her classmates. 12. Take them out for lunch on their school lunch break. Have them excused over their lunch break and take them someplace special! 13. Have breakfast with them at school. If they eat breakfast at school in the morning, join them! If you can't make breakfast, you can always join them for lunch. 14. Take them away for the weekend. You may no longer be whisked away for a romantic weekend but you sure can kidnap your kids for a weekend away! Surprise them by picking them up from school and darting off for a fun-filled weekend of things they love. 15. Give them a journal you have kept for the past year. Start a journal in January, end it in December, and give it to them as a Valentine's Day gift. Fill the pages with letter of love, funny things they did, things you are proud of, or times you missed them throughout the year. 16. Create a scrapbook for them. There are so many ways to scrapbook now! Create a traditional scrapbook with paper and scissors, create one on-line with Shutterfly or Mixbook, create a book out of your FaceBook Wall or from your instagram account with Chatbook. 17. Have a school skip day and go somewhere fun instead. It's okay, I promise. If you know your child can easily make up the work, skip a day! Go have fun. Everyone deserves a mental health day. ;-) 18. Give them a homemade gift. If you have special talents, such as knitting, painting, making jewelry, etc., use it! Make something special for your child. 19. Visit someone who may be lonely on Valentine's Day. Not everyone is lucky enough to be surrounded by children on Valentine's Day. Take yours to visit someone who might be alone on Valentine's Day. The elderly would be a good place to start – they love little kids! 20. Bake a Valentine treat together. Make some cookies or a cake together. Surprise a loved one with the goodies! 21. It came up again today so I wrote this letter to someone who had lost their dog at only 8 years old...."you seem really broken upcan we do this on the phone...? if you're not up to that remember this.......there's a huuuuuge place there that needs love in it. You know that's all they really want - love - which makes this part of their lives so hard to bear. They don't have a mean bone in their bodies so it hurts extra.You give love to another dog because you hope it won't hurt quite so much and it helps. It really does. You miss her........and cry, and miss her and cry,and feel really sorry for yourself that you can't see her pretty eyes again.....but you have a comforter. And you start to accept and you find joy when you remember her life. It would be a shame for all the love to leave with her.So what will you do with it?Get some love. You want that same kind too. Bob Evans Bio Bob comes from a background of, perhaps one of the most creative professions, engineering. Some may think that this is not such an obvious background for an artist, however, all good engineers know that creating something from nothing gives you tremendous creative rush and oft times you find that the best engineers are frequently very accomplished musicians, artists and in my case, photographers.. Landscape Photography of Bob Evans A late comer to art photography Bob spent his early career working in engineering designing lifesciences equipment and then latterly moving into general management. During this time he and his family have lived in England, Florida, New York and latterly in Massachusetts. Bob travels frequently on business and always takes a camera with him as you never know what that perfect image will appear. During this time he had a very active interest in photography, probably coming from his father who is also an accomplished photographer. Over the years as he honed his expertise he found that what could best be loosely described as ‘landscape’ was his metier. Particularly in the abstraction from reality of key elements helped by almost exclusive use of black and white. Influences Early influences were Fay Godwin, a very accomplished english landscape photographer, sadly no longer with us. Her work evokes a deep empathy with the land and her keen eye and technical skill inspired him greatly. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fay_Godwin). Ansel Adams whose images of Yosemite and the American West together with the deep technical knowledge and skill in producing the finished print and treating the entire process as a pre-visualised expression was particularly welcome. Bill Brandt and Weegee, where the technical element was secondary to the image and the emotions evoked by them. Similarly with Cartier Bresson and his ‘decisive moment’, although Bob has never particularly focused on people photographs, on the occasions he has you can most defiantly see there influences, as shown in the 'people' gallery. Photo’s by Bob Evans Building on that creative engineering background Bob continued to hone his his technical skill and artistic eye. An early Nikon fan, Bob’s first ‘proper’ camera was an Nikon FM, an excellent manual workhorse that was used extensively. Over the years Bob has used many other cameras. For those ‘decisive moment’ shots he always carried a Minox 35GT, usually loaded with Ilford HP5. For his main camera he rapidly moved beyond 35mm and whilst he was using film his preferred outfit was a Bronica ETRS and then moved to a Mamiya RB67 and a home made 5x4. All of his darkroom work was done at home with a full setup for black and white and colour and many happy hours spent in the darkroom. Ilford was the brand of choice for monochrome work usually FP4 for larger formats and HP5 for 35mm both developed in ID11. This background in the craft of photography certainly helped in the transition to digital and he now spends more time in front of the computer then he ever did in the darkroom! he now uses Nikon systems exclusively, keeping an old D100 for Infra Red images, which have always been an interest to him. Perhaps this is driven by the abstraction from reality aspect of Bobs work which is so prevalent in his work. Having an eye for an image that would tell a story Bob has a key guideline that he rigorously applies, no manipulation of the subject is allowed. Bob strongly believes in taking the subject ‘as-is’ no posing of subjects, moving items etc. He greatly admires photographers who are expert in that technique, however, for himself it is capturing the essential essence of the subject matter that is vital to him. Bob has had his work published in the national press in England covering news events as well as having several shows in both the UK and in New York and has recently decided to move onto the web. He is a keen member of the Blackstone Valley Art Association and Arts Worcester and as well as photography he is also a keen sculptor and abstract painter as shown in the art gallery.
