I love to read books and learn new techniques and skills along with more about myself. It's a way for us to grow not only as individuals but as business owners and entrepreneurs. There a ton of "self-help" books out there. Rarely, do they ever make sense nor are what they teach very realistic or practical to use. Recently I read a book that was a suggestion from an email newsletter I subscribe to from Pat Flynn. I have found Pat Flynn, who recommended this book, to be authentic, real and trustworthy. I decided to take a look at it and read it from start to finish within a week. The book is insightful, practical, and was an eye opener for me personally and professionally. The author is Gary Keller with Jay Papasan both who are popular online business people, I am guessing. The book takes you through the myths of multitasking and provides a great method for finding your ultimate purpose. It made me really reflect on what my ultimate purpose is in this life. Then it helps you narrow down, and narrow down, and narrow down to help you get to the actual task or activity that can help you towards your bigger purpose. The information applies to all facets of your life whether it is health, business, spiritual, personal or anything else. The main question asked throughout the book was, "What is the ONE Thing I can do today that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" The word phrase that really stuck out to me was "I CAN DO". Not what should I do, not what could I do. I find myself asking the question everyday but not before I defined my ultimate purpose. Want to know what I came up with? My Lifelong Purpose Statement "My purpose in the next five years is to be free of financial burdens that limit my ability to help myself, my family, other people, and my community. When I am free of those financial burdens, my purpose is to become wealthy enough to achieve my personal goals for my family, other people, and my community for the rest of my life and beyond. Leave a legacy for my family, other people, and my community." I know that is really broad and sort of vague but when I went through the process outlined in the book I could really narrow it down to the one task I can do at this moment that will move me toward that goal. Pretty cool, I think. The book is affordable, not costing more than any other book you would normally buy and you can purchase other companion pieces to go with it. I just enjoyed the book and got a lot out it, so I didn't find it necessary to purchase the other pieces. But you might decide you need more and that's okay. I really enjoyed the first two books of The Queen of the Tearling Trilogy and the way they married the feel of an epic fantasy novel with dystopian elements. I love Kelsea Raleigh--the way she's portrayed and her believable growth from altruistic young woman to someone who's willing to put aside their morals to do what needs to be done. There's a progressively dark feeling to these novels. I still love the setting. We remain in the world Johansen built, but its beginnings are fully fleshed out in The Fate of the Tearling. We get to see how their society used to be run and where everything went wrong. Seeing more of Mortmesne was particularly interesting. I have always enjoyed Johansen's ability to give you something you have a preconceived notion of and then tear it out from under you. She frequently makes you think of things in a new way, and the Mortmesne plot lines are a good example of that. I wasn't a fan of The Fate of the Tearling's storyline, however.. I liked where the story was heading when the second book ended but found myself frequently upset about how she navigated the plot in this book. I thought the Red Queen's redemption arc was completely off the wall. It felt so out of character for the villain we had come to know. I felt that they broke her, in a sense. She came off weak. I enjoyed learning more about Row. I liked that he was given a face and backstory, but the confrontation with him felt highly unsatisfying. I felt the narrative had difficulty carrying the multiple points of view from so many different characters. I found myself missing the rapport and witty banter between Kelsea and her guards. It took away a big part of what I enjoyed in previous books. I also felt there was too much of the dystopian element in this book. I liked getting answers and seeing a more complete history of the world, but I had such a hard time keeping track of everything that it was hard to enjoy the story. There were just too many varying points of view, and it made the narrative feel inconsistent. Another thing I disliked were the new developments in Kelsea and Pen's relationship. Although I don't require romance to enjoy a story, it's a big draw for me. I had liked where their relationship was heading, and the events of this book were frustrating with regards to them. The Fate of the Tearling left me wishing she had written a prequel instead, so I could have fully immersed myself in the characters and storylines I had come to love throughout the series. I detested the ending. It felt as though she took everything she had spent three entire books building and blew it all apart. I like that she had the courage to go in that direction but the narrative turn seemed weak. It felt like a cop out and I found myself a little confused, wondering what precisely had happened. I wish the series had ended with a little more hope. Perhaps that isn't realistic, but I don't really read fiction for realism. All in all, I did enjoy the book and it was largely well written. I just wish that the narrative had been more consistent, that more page time could have been dedicated to the storylines and characters of the present, and that the ending had been more satisfying.

I am a mother, a wife, and a photographer... in that order. ;) I love my family first and foremost. I am a jack of many trades, I love creating, everything - from beautiful images, to costumes, to yummy foods. I love my craft closet, (which is full of stuff I can use to make things for you session that will make it that much more interesting) I love my costume and prop collection, I love thrift stores and flea markets, and I love a good sale anywhere. I enjoy reading good long books as well as writing, (although life has seemed to push that pastime to the side for the most part) and I rarely ever watch TV. I enjoy the outdoors and sports, and when I get old I will be be an avid traveler. ;) The sky amazes me and I have recently began taking random photos of it (awesome for overlays)...., I would love to have a second house at the ocean. I have an obsession with dying my hair random colors dependent upon my mood, and lately am rarely seen without a bandana tied around my head. If asked about my favorite color, I would have to say that I love them all (which is reflected throughout the walls of my home) yet I always gravitate toward things that are black. I am inspired in one way or another by everything that I have ever seen or experienced. (good, bad, and ugly) I like to think that I am a very intelligent person, I have an extremely sarcastic sense of humor at times, and I truly enjoy people. I have a very good sense of style, although my clothing choices for myself may not always reflect that as I am often in a tank top and jeans. (That said, you will never catch me dead in "mom" jeans) I drive too fast, and love music....all genres, like in a "My name is Amanda and I must be schizophrenic due to my playlist" kind of way.... I am not a "professionally trained photographer" so I can show you no credentials aside from my portfolio, as I am completely self taught and expand on my creativity and knowledge whenever possible. I suppose we can call me an extremely passionate artist of the lens, eager to capture and create some fantastic images for you. We are each an unique work of art, I am here to make sure your portraits reflect just that. I can produce a perfectly beautiful image of you sooc (straight out of camera), although rarely will I ever be satisfied with leaving it at that. I would like to consider myself extremely versatile in the creativity department. I love to do themed shoots, and can create costumes as well as other items necessary to pull them off. I have an eye for location, and love and appreciate natural light and texture. I am slightly "edgy", and love to think outside of the box. While there is nothing "conservative" about my taste or personality, I am able to mold my creative juices to suit the situation. Happy Valentine's Day!! When you become a mom, Valentine's Day takes on a whole other meaning. Suddenly, there is more than just one love in your life. And it is your job to honor that love. Gone are the romantic dinners, flowers and candle light! Very rarely will you get whisked off on a romantic get-away weekend. Instead, you will receive dried macaroni necklaces, painted hearts and shiny plastic rings. And oddly enough, these little trinkets will mean more to you than any diamond. Well, almost. How to honor your little one on Valentine's Day? Well, now, that truly is the question. For years I would start the day off for my boys with a special breakfast. When they came running to the breakfast table, they would find a heart-shaped box of chocolates and a gift at their place setting. The gift was always jammie themed – a new pair of pajamas, slippers, a new blanket or a new stuffed animal. Other than baking heart-shaped cookies, and occasionally a desert for dinner, that is really all I ever did for my boys on Valentine's Day. As more and more boys were added to the family, the tradition slowly died out. And so I found myself wondering, what do I do for Valentine's Day this year? If you are in the same boat, fear not!! The day is not done. Try one of these ideas for a last minute Valentine Day surprise – and the ones that require a little more planning can always be tucked away for next year! 21 Ways To Spend Valentine's Day With Your Children 1. Surprise them with a special breakfast. Make it something gooey and sweet! After all, isn't that what this day is all about? Try some cinnamon rolls, monkey break, caramel rolls, muffins or scones. For an extra special treat, serve them cake for breakfast! 2. Give them a themed gift every year. Like I said, I did a pajama theme. But this can be anything. Maybe it's sports related, a game themed gift, bath related or a movie theme. The trick is to keep the same theme every year, but to find a different gift from year to year. 3. Give them a box of chocolate. A traditional touch, for sure. This makes a nice addition to any tradition. 4. Cook dinner together. Cooking dinner together is always fun for the little kids, but as your children get older, it becomes more of a chore. Make it fun by serving a yummy punch or pop, cranking up some music and joking around while you cook! 5. Have a candle light dinner. Younger kids love this one. They know there is something extra special going on when you dim the lights and light a candle. 6. Have a special dinner together. Maybe it's dinner out. Maybe it's a heart-shaped pizza. Or maybe you serve them their favorite pasta. Whatever it is, make it stand out. Serve some sparkling water or juice in a wine glass for kicks! 7. Make it a date night. Take your kids out for dinner and a movie. Or hit the bowling alley or the skating rink. Do something fun as a family. 8. Watch a movie together. Snuggle up together on the couch, pop some popcorn and put on that movie you've been meaning to sit down and watch. Make it a pajama party or slumber party to set it apart from any other movie night. 9. Play a board game together. Let them stay up late and play a game together. Serve some yummy snacks, a special drink and just have fun! 10. Camp out in their bedroom for the night. If you have older kids, play some video games with them until late in to the night. If your kids are younger, sleep on the floor in their room. Have a slumber party together! 11. Surprise them with a special delivery at school. Have some balloons, a cupcake, a flower or something special delivered to your child at school, in front of his or her classmates. 12. Take them out for lunch on their school lunch break. Have them excused over their lunch break and take them someplace special! 13. Have breakfast with them at school. If they eat breakfast at school in the morning, join them! If you can't make breakfast, you can always join them for lunch. 14. Take them away for the weekend. You may no longer be whisked away for a romantic weekend but you sure can kidnap your kids for a weekend away! Surprise them by picking them up from school and darting off for a fun-filled weekend of things they love. 15. Give them a journal you have kept for the past year. Start a journal in January, end it in December, and give it to them as a Valentine's Day gift. Fill the pages with letter of love, funny things they did, things you are proud of, or times you missed them throughout the year. 16. Create a scrapbook for them. There are so many ways to scrapbook now! Create a traditional scrapbook with paper and scissors, create one on-line with Shutterfly or Mixbook, create a book out of your FaceBook Wall or from your instagram account with Chatbook. 17. Have a school skip day and go somewhere fun instead. It's okay, I promise. If you know your child can easily make up the work, skip a day! Go have fun. Everyone deserves a mental health day. ;-) 18. Give them a homemade gift. If you have special talents, such as knitting, painting, making jewelry, etc., use it! Make something special for your child. 19. Visit someone who may be lonely on Valentine's Day. Not everyone is lucky enough to be surrounded by children on Valentine's Day. Take yours to visit someone who might be alone on Valentine's Day. The elderly would be a good place to start – they love little kids! 20. Bake a Valentine treat together. Make some cookies or a cake together. Surprise a loved one with the goodies! 21. Make a Valentine together. It could be any kind of craft or DIY project. Make it together and surprise someone you love with it! Have any more ideas? Share them!

I am an Atlanta based photographer specializing in fine art landscape, architectural and artwork photography. Working in both black & white and color, my landscape images are an expression of my lifelong love for the wonders of our natural world. My current black and white work is an exploration of the monochromatic world of patterns, shapes, tones and textures in natural settings. As I continue to explore this world I find myself moving away from the traditional wide "landscape" views to more intimate compositions with a particular emphasis on the structure of the subject and the composition. My color work - as opposed to focusing on form and texture as I do in my black and white portfolio - uses color itself as the essence of the image. The colors being as, or sometimes more, important than the actual subject matter of the photograph "Abstract Water Studies" is a new project in both color and black and white that explores the movement, texture and color of water separated from the normal context. Although I use modern digital equipment to capture and process my images I am, at the core, a traditionalist and use the "digital darkroom" to perform only traditional darkroom techniques such as dodging and burning, tonal adjustments and contrast control to create the image as I visualized it in the field. I don't consider myself as a software expert although some people do. That's their perception, not mine. :) However, I do believe that I know a thing or two about software being someone whose profession is in the tech field. Well, this site is really about software and it can be something about the past or it could be something about what the future of software technology has to offer. I fell in love with photography at age 15 when I got my first SLR camera for Christmas back in 1983. I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer but photography school was too expensive so I never pursued it professionally. In my 20's, I didn't have time to do much photography due to... well, life. At around age 32 I decided I wanted to be happy, finally, and I wanted to take control of my life instead of being controlled by my job. So I started getting back into my photography and practicing and shooting and reading everything I could get my hands on and teaching myself how to be a better photographer. So at age 34 I started my photography business. This was in 2002 about 6 months after 9/11. Probably not the best time to start a business, but for me it was now or never. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life! I put everything I had into it with the attitude that "I will make this happen!" Failure was not an option. To my surprise... three years later, I was shooting 50 weddings a year. The best part... I am happy! I love what I do, I love my life... What could be better than that? About My Photography I don't like to label my style of photography. I just go with what I am feeling from the bride and groom and what I am feeling from the wedding location. The light, the colors, the textures all play a part in how I shoot. I bring a relaxed, fun and confident attitude to my shoots. I get told by my clients that I am a joy to work with and I make them feel very comfortable in front of the camera. I get people at my weddings telling me, "Dude, your an awesome photographer!" I'm like, "You haven't even seen the pictures yet." "Don't need to. I can just tell by watching you that you're an awesome photographer. You never miss anything. You're just right on it." Hi. Thanks for visiting my Web site. I became interested in Sports Photography while cheering for my daughter at her Volleyball games. As you may be able to see from my picture, I take cheering for my daughter very seriously. It was killing me to know that I was missing out on so many memories because no one was taking pictures. I had a good friend (who is an awesome photographer) who would come to a few games a year and shoot pictures for me. Once my daughter started playing in College I wanted to preserve every minute she spent on the court. I started taking pictures myself and sharing them with her teammates. Since 2011 I have been creating limited edition concert posters for bands and musicians of all kinds. I taught myself the craft of screenprinting to enable me to quickly produce the posters without having to outsource the printing. I still print most posters myself and I love the fact that I can handle all processes involved in creating a poster, from initial concept all the way to finished poster.

I am Long Island's next generation of cinema and editing. For the past 9 years I have been in love with the entire process of creating digital video and animations.
